Wayne
Stanton was born in the small town of Peterman, Alabama
January 6, 1939. Shortly thereafter the family moved to
Monroeville, Alabama where he spent most of his childhood. As a
boy he studied the violin, but always was inquiring as to how things
worked. He studied violin making concurrently with college work. He apprenticed
with Norman Bedwell and Master Violin Maker, Dudley Reed in Florida.
He later went
to
Europe further refining his personal study of violin making techniques. He set up his own shop
in 1971.
M. Wayne Stanton is an expert master
luthier, and has made many examples of fine stringed instruments and
bows.

countries. Although
he has built many fine violins, violas, and cellos,
